Fall is Coming & Blog Candy

I looked at the weather forecast this morning and it looks like Fall is on the way. While we have been enjoying temperatures around 80 degrees (or warmer), starting Monday it looks like we will be around 65-70 degrees. Sounds like Fall to me. So today I have a card to get you in the mood for the glorious season that is Autumn. It is my favorite season, but it seems way too short.

Today's card is cut from a file by Sam & Hailey Designs called Roundies - Forever Friends. It is fun to do a shaped card once in a while, something other than the standard rectangle or square. I stuck with fall colors for this (brown, orange, yellow, red and a touch of green). Other than the elements that came with the cutter file, I only needed to add a few more details. There is pen stitching around the base and around the orange scalloped piece. I wanted to add actual stitching with a needle and thread, but I don't have a good template for doing circles or scalloped shapes. (But I do need to get my Sew Easy out of storage and actually start using it.) The 3 leaves on the card are rub-ons from the Paper Studio (Fall Stitched Alpha) - I'm not sure if you can tell from the photo, but they look like they are stitched as well. I added a brad at the top to join the 2 layers of the card. The inside layer looks just like the front, only without any embellishments (just the brown base layer and orange scalloped piece.) And finally I used my i-rock to attach 3 small red gems. What do you think? Does it say "Fall" to you?

I am entering this card into a few challenges today:

Okay, today I am announcing the last of my weekly Blog Candy giveaways before the BIG BLOG CANDY GIVEAWAY. :) Here is what is up for grabs this week. Some circle and square dimensional stickers (no idea where these are from), a package of rub-ons from My Mind's Eye, 2 sentiment stamps, a roll of Halloween ribbon, and some cute little strawberry embellishments from Creative Charms.

The Rules:
1. You must be a follower.
2. You must leave a comment on this post answering this question: What kind of paper trimmer do you use or would you recommend?
3. For extra chances to win, comment on my other posts for the week of 09/01 - 09/07. You will get an extra entry for each post on which you comment.

I will draw a winner next week (probably on Thursday, September 8th) and mail out your goodies (due to the cost of postage, this is only open to US residents, but I sincerely appreciate comments from my international readers as well). Be sure to check back to see if you win and also to see what the Big Blog Candy Giveaway (to celebrate my Blogoversary) will be.

Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Beautiful card! The only paper trimmer I've ever used is one made by Fiskars, so I really don't have anything else to compare it to. It's always worked well for me though!

  9. This card is so beautiful, Kelly! I love the shape and the pretty Fall colors! The stitching is just perfect! I use a 12" Fiskars premium paper trimmer and it I like it. It is a medium range price, like $30 or so, but I had some of the cheaper ones and they could not cut a straight line. It drove me crazy!! So I invested in this one and so far, it's working great :)

  10. Kelly this is a beautiful fall card. The orange and brown is perfect:) I really like the odd shapes, it makes me think of a piece of art I once saw at a gallery. I use the cricut trimmer, the green one. I have had it for about a year and it has been super, it was cheap too!! Hugs, Pam at http://craftycards4u2.blogspot.com/

  12. Yes, Kelly, this definitely makes me think of FALL!! It also reminds me of the Dutch designs on decorations around here... Such a striking card with the colors and details!! :) TFS!!

Now... As for my trimmer of choice... Hmmm... I have a TONIC large trimmer (with the guillotine arm) that I use for cutting lots of paper, and then I use both the 12" and personal trimmer from Creative Memories... I also have a Fiskars one, but I use that one mostly for thin paper or cutting frames. I love my trimmers almost as much as I love my Cricut -- Put me in a room with a trimmer and a stack of paper, and I could have a VERY good time!! :)

Can't wait to see what you come up with tomorrow!! :)

    Big hugs,
    Amy :) at www.lovetocrop.com

  13. I have a fiskers trimmer which I love! I love it so much that, When joann's put it on sale, i bought an extra one for a backup! I also like the cricut one that I use as a scorer. I bought the more expensive Martha Stewart scorer and ended up going back to cricut. Glad I didn't buy a scorpal! LOL!
